It seems to me you are dealing with poorly written indexes. Instead of 12
listings
for the word text, I always enter a description for each entry, except for
the spread
of pages that is the main discussion. For example

text 2-13
color 3
creating 2
editing 2
font 3
formatting 3
in tables 5

and so on
