I am answering this in more detail off-list, out of respect for the list
manager's comments about this thread previously, but the below commentary is
in my opinion not true given that I have a Dublin-born friend who works on
contract in the U.S. I doubt he could have gotten in to work here if he
wasn't doing it via contract work though, I suppose. I don't know if the
same applies for tech writers or not, but I'm just speculating that contract
work might be how people can work in other countries more easily, at least
on a temporary basis.
