We use our own true type font (Dax) for all companmy documents, so wish to
change the default font from Times New Roman to Dax. Does anyone know how to
do this?

Yep. Find the default template that PowerPoint is using (it's probably in your Microsoft Office\Template directory, and named Blank Presentation.pot) and change that.

That should take care of it.
