There's an unsatisfying but "typically Adobe" answer to this in their Knowledgebase at it's short enough that I can quote it in its entirety:

>Acrobat Viewers Cannot Print or Collate Multiple Copies
>Adobe Acrobat viewers (e.g., Acrobat, Acrobat Business Tools, Acrobat Reader) for Windows cannot collate PDF print jobs, even if other applications can collate multiple copies of a file to a given printer.
