last time I really saw them, Product Req's and Product Design docs were
different critters. Req's state what the customer wants to do, Design docs
state how the software will allow the customer to do what s/he/it wants. And
Info Plans describe the methods and processes you're gonna document the
software (what manuals are ya gonna make, delivery methods, schedules,
production requirements, etc).

then ya get to write the books.

and yeah, you can generally create an info plan at either the Product Req
stage or the Design stage, but imho, can't write a word of truth about the
actual software until ya get the Design Doc/Spec (or get the beast on your
box so you can start playing with it.

Cathy asks:
Do you think the Information plan should be part of a "frozen" Product
Requirements document?
I say: sure, but it can be based on that document or stand-alone as well.

Cathy asks: Is there enough information in a Product Requirements document
to develop an
Information Plan?
I say: that depends, but why would you when people are happy to provide such
lovely, extensive design documents. You know, the coolest thing is that they
complete Design documents before coding!

Cathy asks: Is it the norm for Design documents to be so extensive in
documenting how a
procedure works?
I say: no, but congratulations. Enjoy these perks and focus on honing your
craft.
