Both cases, whether they be urban legend or not, were not actually trying to include humor in a technical document. These are product names that (might) have been mis-translated. A good translator should be able to recognize humor in the source language and copy it, or a comparable culture-oriented version of it, into the target language. If he or she can't then maybe it's time to look for a new translator.
