I hesitate a little to mention this, but if you're *really* tight on money
and decide you need to have MS Office, look into picking up a copy of Office
97. I'm not positive about the rest of the apps, but I know that Word 97
files can read Word 2000 docs, even if it can't manage quite all of the 2000
versions features, such as a greater number of colors, etc.

You should be able to find a copy of Office 97 for chicken scratch. BTW,
there were, of course, different version of 97. Consider which programs you
need in the package; i.e. Publisher vs. FrontPage.
