No need to apologize. I've been having the same
problem recently at the local BK and McD's.

For me though, it's not even the change factor. It's
the inability to adhere to even simple conversation
standards. (anyone remember PLEASE and THANK YOU?)
This actually happened to me a couple weeks back.

Me: Hello, how are you this evening?

Cashier: (Blank stare)

Me: I'd like a Big Mac and a Filet O'Fish, please...

Cashier: (glances at touch pad....stares at me)

Me: (smile) Um, a Big Mac and a Filet O'Fish,
please...

Cashier: (stares at touch pad...stares at manager)

Me: (smile)

Manager: What did you order?

Me: (reaches around register and punches in items
myself, clearly labelled "Big Mac" and "Filet"...I did
this even though I have never worked in a fast food
place)

Cashier: That will be 4.75.

Me: (gives casher a 20)

Cahsier: (gives me 25 cents change)

Anyway, after politely explaining this to the manager,
I finally did receive the correct change.

(Yes, I know this diverts from the standard tech
writing topics...but it does pertain to
communication...)
