Robbie is correct about "bump," but I suggest this is shorthand that could
lead to misunderstanding. I think "bump the starter" is better than "bump
the engine." Avoids confusion with "bump starting," which doesn't involve
the starter motor (or any button or key movement) at all and, of course is
done by pushing the vehicle. If "bump" is offensive, a long, pure
definition can be provided in a glossary ... if you think your audience
reads glossaries. "Jog" is not used in an engine context--I believe in
"never say never," but this is about as close as it gets.
