STC can be a lot of different things for a lot different people. Let me
see if I can describe some of the main ones:

- Provides a group of peers you might not other wise have
- Offers training through peers, publications, events, and more
- Helps aspiring writers enter the profession
- Finds employers for candidates and vice versa
- Is a self promoters heaven (Yes, even in STC!)
- Provides a target for gripers
- Lets you be altruistic if you want to
- Earns recognition for volunteers and participants

If none of these things serve you, you're probably getting them through
some other source. Don't join. It's not worth the $100.

If you're not getting these things in sufficient quantity, spend the
money. You can make it worth your while.*

*Read the label carefully. STC is psychoactive for people with a mind.
See your psychoanalyst if symptoms do not abate after taking STC for
more than 2 years. Persons allergic to organizational substances should
not take STC in any form.
