All else being equal, which writing environment

This is a particularly interesting poll question. During the years I was
a full time techncial writer working on Cold War projects, I was almost
always working alone, other than for my data gathering visits with engineers
and other SMEs. I never gave much thought to whether I liked that or would
have preferred to be part of a team. Frankly, I did prefer it, and almost
all my experiences in writing generally have convinced me that I do not do
as well collaborating as I do working solo.

Why is that? Frankly, I don't know, but I have only once or twice found
another writer whose style was so much like my own that I could make almost
no criticism of or correction to the other's writing. Perhaps I am a harsh
critic, although I learned as an editor and manager to accept others'
writing even when I did not like their style. Btu to have others' writing
appear under my byline--well, that is a different story indeed! - Herm
