Paul Hanson wrote that a trainer needed changes made to a document the day
before class and that Paul let the trainer make the changes and discuss them
later with Paul.

I would advise doing almost the same thing - my one change would be for the
trainer to make the changes on a COPY of the document, which you can then
merge with the original (or not), as appropriate. This way you can fix any
errors (in fact or in style) before they go out beyond that one class.
