in using metric measurements...? Though perhaps not with the enthusiastic
rigour of the UK in the European Community: today a greengrocer is being
prosecuted for selling bananas by the pound instead of the kilo. Even though
I think that a global standard system of measurements is inarguably a Good
Thing, no one could possibly argue that lives depend on bananas being sold
by the centimetre instead of the inch (er, I mean by grammes not ounces...),3604,422250,00.html
