I've also come across HHs and HR folks who don't have a clue as to what they
are asking for. I may be thrown to the wolves for mentioning this topic but
maybe some standards or guidelines are needed for the various experience and
skill levels across the many industries served by technical communications
professionals. I don't think the solution is categories with hard
boundaries, but something that could be recognized as a relative assessment
of someone's capabilities based on a standard for that industry might help
the clueless HR departments and HHs out there better judge the value add we
provide.
