The easiest way is to rename all myfiles.fm to myfiles_OLD.fm. Next, copy
your empty template files to myfiles.fm.
Open your empty myfiles.fm and also the corresponding myfiles_OLD.fm. In

myfiles_OLD.fm, press Ctrl-a to select all, Ctrl-c to copy all, and then go
to myfiles.fm and Ctrl-v to paste the clipboard into the new template.

You can do it this way, for sure. I think I'd delete the paragraph and character styles from the catalogs, then import the styles. You can then use global update options and Find/Replace to reformat.
