In my case I happen to like 3 ring binder formats for reference
materials. I can update it, rearrange the chapters to fit my use, and
easily add blank sheets for my own notes.

I did my BA Honors project about writing a software manual and
used the 3 ring binder format for just those reasons. But then again,
as someone else mentioned, maybe it's because I spent 22 years in
the USAF.
