I think Tanja had a great outline for what to put in a thank you note. As
far as snail mail vs. e-mail, I think snail mail has a more personal touch.
Plus, I enjoy stationery; I always have some small note card with a
writing-related picture. E-mail is fine, I guess; I just prefer hand
written.
I do know that writing a note helped with my current job; though I think I
would have gotten an offer anyway, it seemed to make a definitely positive
impression. Someone I met with during the interview and later worked with
mentioned it specifically to me after I started.
Even when I've gone on interviews that I've gotten through recruiters, I
still send thank you notes to the people I interviewed with. Sometimes, if
was not able to get everyone's full name, I'll send a note to the main
person and ask them to extend my thanks to the other interviewers.
I guess if your handwriting is terrible, you might not want to hand write
it... I don't have any advice on that front.
