ANNOUNCE: Annual Book Reviewer's Breakfast at STC Conference

I invite all current and potential book reviewers for STC's journal,
_Technical Communication_, to the annual reviewers' breakfast
meeting at the Chicago conference this month. We'll discuss new projects
and directions, make assignments, and put faces to
names.

You'll learn about tricks of the reviewer's trade, the ongoing development
of our online presence, and books needing reviewers.
Also, we want to spend considerable time hashing out how we'll handle the
reviewing of books about such tools as Adobe products, FrameMaker,
Microsoft Word, RoboHelp, DreamWeaver and other Web tools, etc.

The details:
* Date: Wednesday, 16 May
* Time: 7:00 (see "Food," below) to 8:15 AM
* Place: Skyway 273, on level 2 of the Hyatt Regency West Tower. Yes, this
year we can talk in the quiet of a room separate from the rest of the
breakfasting public, and we can hear one another!
* Food: You'll need to pick up your food from the conference breakfast
area in Riverside Center West (that's in the East Tower, of course) and
bring it to the meeting room. That's quite a distance, so please plan to
attack the food line early; we might then be able to begin meeting by
7:15. By Wednesday we should all be experienced in how to travel these
routes. But do attack as early as possible.

In addition, I'm running a conference workshop "How to Write an STC Book
Review" at 4:00 Tuesday afternoon. Come join us to learn how the process
operates and to get some hands-on practice.

If you want to begin reviewing books for the journal, I heartily encourage
you to read the reviewers' guidelines at
http://www.techcomm-online.org/shared/info_book_revs.html. To get rolling,
you should submit the reviewer's profile form, available at
http://www.techcomm-online.org/reg/rev_profile.html. Please contact me to
get further information and a list of books currently available for
review.
