One of the advantages of experience is perspective. So, in my arrogance,
let me spout some:
> Yes, everything is less rosy in the high-tech world compared to fourteen

> it was about the same or slightly worse than in 1996, when I started

I have done a lot of job-hopping in the last year. I really do love
short-term assignments. But I have found that even though the number of
tech-writing jobs has declined, there is still a great need for us. I was
unemployed for six weeks this year -- but two of those weeks I was in the
Caribbean. When I got back, I was employed within two weeks, and had to
"blow off" recruiters for another three weeks.
