Possible solution regarding inserting a CorelDraw 9 file into Word 2000:
In Word, select Insert> Object> Create from File then select your .cdr file.
I'm not certain if this suggestion will solve your problem since at the
moment I have neither Corel 9 nor Word 2000 to test it out, but I think
that's how it used to work (a few years back).

Subject: CorelDraw! 9 and Word 2000
Hi, all. Just wondering if there's any difference between using Insert >
Picture > From File to insert a CorelDraw! image into Word, as opposed to
just selecting the image in Corel, copying it to the clipboard and then
pasting it into Word?
I should mention I was unable (on several computers with several different
.cdr files) to get the former method to actually work. :( Even so, I
don't want to take the easy road if a little extra effort will improve the
