I once went in to an agency that I thought had a solid interview for me. It
turned out that they were experienced at hiring office help and were just
starting to dabble in high-tech consulting.

I was seated in a small office by myself with a computer, and asked to enter
my resume. This seemed like a strange request, but I dutifully followed the
instructions. It soon became obvious that the company had never before
dealt with a polished professional tech writer.

Near the end of the process were two questions:

1. What are your long-term goals?
2. What accomplishment in your personal or professional life are you most
proud of?

When I tried to enter a realistic answer, I found that their computer would
only accept a maximum of 100 characters. So, I answered the questions, then
left in disgust and decided to never again darken their door.

What were my answers?

1. To live long and prosper.
2. Raised two computer geeks to adulthood.
