Apart from Test, I have seen the T stand for Teaching. Some friends of my wife (a teacher) has TOEFL on their resume, that is they have a qualification to teach English as a foreign language.

In Canada, that would be TESL: Teaching English as a Second Language.

When I taught ESL and tutored diploma, undergraduate, and graduate visa students in academic writing skills, I probably learned more about writing English than they did, I had to study up so much to answer my students' questions and give instruction. Ironically, many of my immigrant and refugee ESL students had been professionals and academics; English was their third, fourth, or fifth language.
