Don't know if you work for a company that has IP (intellectual property) attorneys, but the first step for obtaining a trademark is through a trademark search done by these legal specialists. Such a search is costly and can be time-consuming (months if not years). Because the process involves liability, it's usually handled by the legal department. If it's just information you want, then a good reference librarian can help; but if you must pursue the process for obtaining a trademark, let the legal specialists handle it.

Your public library should have a directory of organizations providing grants and awards.
