In my inimitable style <cough, choke>, I register my protest, then usually
proceed to get the (new) job done. Our firm has a long tradition of doing what
the client wants, whenever possible. And normally we bill by the hour so at
least we're getting paid for our misery. The last time this happened it was over
Thanksgiving weekend, I was doing the cooking, and I had visiting family. The
project got done on time, the family got a great Thanksgiving dinner and they
understood about the rest of the time, and the client was happy.

In this particular case, there were apparently some off-calendar meetings I
didn't know about, because another writer said afterwards that he thought I knew
about the changes. None of the developers had thought to invite me. I was
slightly miffed because the other writer knew I was deeply involved with
interface stuff, and if he knew major changes were coming he could have at least
have said something. Anyway, it's water under the bridge.

However the case illustrates the dilemma: do you believe the developers who say
they're too busy to talk to you, or do you make a habit of oh-so-casually
dropping by regularly anyway, despite what they say? 'Tis a puzzlement.
