"Neato" has nothing to do with it. I stopped doing "neato" things
(for the sole sake of "neato") a long time ago. OLE linking is a
tremendous time saver when you plan ahead, use it when appropriate,
and keep the bells and whistles to a minimum. I've used it
alot...even used it to create a complete 76+ page manaagement
presenattion from elements of over 30 different documents (Word,
Excel, and PPT). The document was updated on an ongoing basis
(hourly, as part of the document was based on a feed from our network
servers) as the content from the other 30+ documents/files evolved
(it was the closest that I've ever come to sole-source document
creation).

To solve your problem of access, create a named range for only the
cell section you want to include, create a separate spreadsheet with
only that named range imported, then import that worksheet into Word.
They will only see the range you want them to, but it will be updated
from the "master" spreadsheet dynamically.
