Wow. Talk about over-thinking something.

Maybe a more accurate phrasing of the question would be:

How skilled are you, as a technical writer, in ***the subject*** you are
currently writing about?

* I know only the minimum about ***the subject***
* I am a competent beginner in ***the subject***
* I am moderately skilled in ***the subject***
* I am a proficient in ***the subject***
* I am an expert in ***the subject***
* Other/none of the above

This sideline into what is a "product" derails what I think was the spirit
of the question, which is how SME are we.
