Geoff Hart mentioned some things medical writers do.

There is also hardware/software documentation for companies that develop
software and equipment for use in a hospital (or other medical) environment.
This is the type of writing that I do. I believe that I've seen messages
posted by others writing in the medical field, who may do other types of
writing.
