This situation is covered in most grammar books and many
style guides. The article used depends on the sound of the
following word - "an" precedes vowel sounds and "a" precedes
consonant sounds. That's why you hope to find "an honest man"
when you look for "a husband." Whether he's also "a humble" or
"an humble" man depends on your accent.

So as someone pointed out, it doesn't matter what letter "SI" begins
with, but rather how it's pronounced.

Tech writing tie-in (been said before, but I'll say it again): one of the tools
a technical writer should own and use frequently is at least one, if not
several, writing handbooks.
