RE: Senior Technical Writer Status

You earn it. ;)

It's a gray issue. Some companies go by years in the business, others your
contributions (real or anticipated) to the company, or many other criteria.

Like all titles, its a title. "Senior" has a nice ring to it, but not
everyone uses it. Most of the time the senior writers command a higher pay.
Some senior writers are "Documentation Specialists", but I've seen that
title used to identify entry-level writers as well (where you graduate to
"Technical Writer").

A title is a title is a title. What that title gets you is entirely
subjective and varies from company to company. But, as Chef says, "It don't
bother me none, as long as I get my rent paid on Friday."
