IMHO

Combo of the 5 year mark, AND being confident enough in your abilities to be
able to lead a small time of writers to a goal. As a senior writer, you
should only rarely need to ask for advice in your sphere of influence. When
it comes to job-hunt time, I stress the senior part, otherwise the rest of
the time I don't care, as can be seen from my sig I am only stating I'm the
only writer :-) When I wasn't, I used the term "Lead Tech Writer".

Another good sign is that a senior has mentored / trained writers...
