Can we lower the temperature a little?

I didn't think Mr. West meant any offense in his original reply,
and I hope you'll reconsider your interpretation.

It *is* quite common to hear the table of contents referred to as
an "index." (You can imagine my frustration over this mistake!)

As for the comment about English being a second language, I thought
it was intended to make you feel *less* like you were being attacked,
not more so.

I don't mean *this* message as an attack, either--I just prefer to
assume the *best* about others, until I'm faced with undeniable
evidence of the worst.
