At a (somewhat educated) guess:

When you work for a company, the work does not belong to you; it's copyrighted
by the company. Since you are not the copyright owner, you can't be held
personally responsible for any problems. At least, you can't under law - within
the company, might be another matter if your carelessness cost a few million
dollars in legal expenses.

This reasoning should hold true virtually everywhere, I think. Actually, I'm a
bit surprised by the caution with which this point is made. I've had a bit to do
with copyright in my time, and I had the impression that this reasoning was
well-established.
