Hi,

I am a new member here and already gaining much insight! This looks
like a very helpful group and so happy I found it! I have about 4 years
experience in the Technical Communication area and that I have picked
up with my present employer. I work in the IT industry and when I began
there were no user manuals on any of the various servers we use, so I
wanted to take on this task and found that I really loved it! At any
rate, I knew at that point I wanted to do technical writing on a full
time basis, but the problem I ran into (at least in my area of the world)
was that my portfolio looked great and my experience but NO formal education...I
have a bachelor's in Business, but nothing in technical communication.
I have been able to find a Master's program in Technical Writing that
I can pursue totally through distant mode, which works well for me as
my schedule tends to change frequently making it difficult to commit
to the in class mode. I am just beginning the program actually and I
thought this group would be good for learning as much as I can about
the "working world" of technical writing. My hope is to be able to do
freelance technical writing in the future, to any that are freelancers,
is that hard to get into or is it a matter of networking? I have NO
clue how to even get my feet wet with the freelance option.

Thank you for listening and have a great weekend!

T.
