If you think "writer" is too broad, how broad is the term "better"?

Define better...

I define it as since I'm paid more now than I was when I started, I
must be better. Doesn't it follow that you pay more for something
better and less for something worse?

In fact, since I'm paid about 50% more, I must be 50% better.
