Or you could get fancy and work up an HTTP system to serve up your documents. I did a system that used a rigorous directory tree to fake searching - combination of forms and CGI to get a listing of files that matched criteria from scrolling lists. Adding a new document just amounted to inventing an appropriate name for a directory (if needed), creating the directory, then putting the document in there. The system updated the lists every 15 minutes.

Showing the proof of concept (i.e. a working site with just a few documents in it) would amount to a prototype.
