As a documentation manager for a software company, my technical writer
qualifications state a degree in English, or some other writing-intensive
major (i.e. liberal arts), or Computer Science, MIS, etc., or equivalent
experience.

I will hire someone who has excellent writing skills and above average
technical aptitude, whether they have a degree or not.
