Ha! I once worked for a man who called our Web "portal" a "port hole." I
was so sure he couldn't possibly mean "portal" that I thought "port
hole" was some new thing I hadn't heard of. I finally asked colleague
about it when I saw it written up in a proposal, and she shook her head
and said, "no, he means portal."

Needless to say, with someone so clued out running the company, it lost
its funding pretty darn fast. Mr. Porthole, of course, blamed that on
the hi-tech stock market crash.

I believe the reason people 'invent' these words is two-fold: they want
to
sound more intelligent ( emphasis on the word SOUND ) and/or they want
to
coin a new buzz word. Of course there is always the possibility that
they
just misheard something and no one ever corrected them. I used to work
for a
man who called us his ' luxurious' staff when he meant 'illustrious'.
