John, this can be as simple as setting up a pale watermark and blending it
into your pictures. You will achieve comparable results with any
fancy-schmancy tool. This sort of process is usually batchable one way or
another.

The main problem is that if people want to remove the watermark, they can,
no matter how hard you try. Just a touch of blur/sharpen or even some sort
of color naturalisation will defeat most systems.

Another, slightly more technical way is to include a CHUNK of text, marked
as text, after the bitmap chunk. With any luck, folks won't realise its even
included in the binary file, giving you a signature that travels with it.
