You have to get a full featured document processor or move on to SGML.

Sorry, Scott, Word *will* do it, just not as easily as some other products. Other whirlers (particularly David Brown) have mentioned the use of mail merge, IF, SET, and other fields for this purpose. The odd home-grown macro would likely help too.

There are probably more elegant (or efficient) ways to do this, but you could define a third style for "both" and have the output look for "A" and "both" or "B" and "both" or some such.

But as Chuck noted, some solutions (while they may do the job) may be unsuitable for many real work situations, because of other contraints.

It's been *years* since I did any of this convoluted stuff and I've forgotten most of it, just remembering enough to be dangerous <grin>.
