Re: Combining User Guides
Our company has an add-in to our core software, which has its own user
guide. We are now going to market the add-in as an optional component of the
main software, which has also has its own user's guide.
The product manager would like to find a way to combine both user guides
into one guide. But, I'm not sure that's the way to go because the two
control panels are completely different. Have any of you dealt with similar
situations? How would you proceed?

Since it is an OPTIONAL component, it can still be a separate document. This reduces the price to the company, since you don't have to provide free documentation for a component that might not be purchased. If you must incorporate it with the main manual, then put it in as an Appendix. That makes more sense.
