I'm captive and have never done an external proposal or RFP, and I never do think about political correctness or stepping on toes until I have well and truly stomped. This is why my mouth is sometimes 2 sizes larger at the end of the day (from putting my feet in it). Sorry if I came across as a heel.

In this case, if I was pretending to have any kind of sensitivity to my reader at all, I would make subtle changes without comment where I was able, and perhaps attach a memo to a draft of the proposal or response asking whether my interpretation of certain clauses was correct.

Regards,
Karen

Although Jason is most likely fully justified in correcting the quotes, it may just not be politically savvy to correct someone who may offer your company a contract. :-) (If you are, indeed, responding to the RFP.)
