When I was on digest, I used to skim-read the whole digest and pause to
focus only on the bits that looked interesting useful. Now I get individual
messages. Every month I delete the ones I haven't read yet that I am
unlikely to find either interesting or useful. (The ones I do read, I
usually delete faster.) One reason why I switched to individual mails from
digest is that there are a very few posters who never seem to have anything
new/useful to contribute - and I can save time by never reading them.
Sometimes, as when I came in this morning, I find I can delete an entire
thread unread immediately. Basically, I find it useful to be able to pick
and choose which bits to read and not read, which posts are keepers and
which are, well, eliminatory material <g>. It's a process! <ggg>

automatically and outwith my control.
