A post on ADS-L (American Dialect Society - List) mentioned a long-running
correspondence in the New Scientist about redundant acronym-noun
combinations,
which they've named RAS Syndrome (that is, Redundant Acronym Syndrome
Syndrome). An example found on Linguist List is also given -- HPSG grammar
(that is,
Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar grammar).
