In answer to Pat Glass' concern, I do remember a speed-reading technique
called "pre-reading," in which you read the first couple of paragraphs of an
article or chapter, skimmed the titles, then read the last couple of
paragraphs. That was "pre-reading." The idea was that you could read (in
detail) a lot faster if you knew where it was going.

But this preeminent precept predates online documents.
