I didn't understand this discussion to be about people who didn't WANT to
stand up, but instead about people who COULDN'T stand up. To me, there is a
huge difference.

I spend over a year on crutches waiting for my total knee replacement. I
could barely walk, even with crutches, much less stand. When I was
delivering instruction, I obtained a stool that I could perch on and was
more or less at standing height. The students didn't seem to mind.

Oh the other hand, I was in a class where a perfectly able-bodied instructor
not only sat down, but sat down behind a 19" monitor to deliver his lecture.
It was perfectly dreadful and he made a terrible impression.

My point? Life isn't a binary choice. All good or all bad. Accomodations can
be made that can fulfill the employer's requirements, even if the employee
has a disability that limits her in some way.
