In general, the differencing algorithms that compute the
changes between multiple versions of a text file have a hard
time with machine-generated text files (like .rtf, which is
just a ridiculously heavily marked-up text file) and you are
better off storing such files as binary. Yes, you store a
complete version. Yes, you consume a lot of disk space. But
if I had to compute the cost savings between using up disk
space and having you wait until the algorithm differenced
the .rtf file, using the disk space would win without question.
