I love the "weaknesses" question, both as an
interviewer and interviewee. Yes, the modus operandi
is to put a positive spin on the question, so you have
to find a way around it, creating an O'Reilly-esque
"no spin zone."

To do this, you can learn a lot from Howard Stern
(gasp!). He's very good at breaking down the walls
that well-rehearsed celebrities use to protect their
secrets. One of his most straightforward techniques is
simply telling the person, "...And be honest."

So if you have good rapport with an interviewee, you
might ask, "What's your biggest weakness...and be
honest. Don't tell me you're a perfectionist. The last
person who told me that had a mental breakdown when he
dangled a modifier."
