Dick, thanks for your support.

One thing you do learn from any exposure to the third world is how to be
resourceful when you don't have a throwaway economy. When a car breaks
down in the Philippines, you pull over to the side of the road, break out
a tool kit and fix it. My father could do that - I couldn't. I wonder how
many first worlders still can?

Likewise - I've sent two laptops that were (I thought) beyond repair to
the Philippines. My in-laws got them working - and not by shipping them
to IBM or HP. I consider that skill and resourcefulness.

Tie to tech writing? Get resourceful...adapt...environments change, and
no amount of finger pointing is going to change that. Sorry, but I don't
hear the people I respect on this list griping about a lack of respect,
foreign competition, or bloodsucking capitalists. They're taking the
skills they use every day as good tech writers and adapting. You don't
have these skills, you deserve to have "the paddle of market discipline"
come down on you.

As F. Scott Fitzgerald said, "the rich are different from you and I. They
have more money." That's the *only* difference. Peace out.

Chuck
