Technical Writers don't need to =be= experts, they just need =access= to
experts.

That said, it is not uncommon for an expert in some field to shift over to
the Technical Communication field. Personally, I've never understood it,
since the original field no doubt pays well above the state of the current
TC field. Then again, it could be that these "experts" just couldn't cut it
in their original profession. From some of the docs I've seen them produce,
this wouldn't surprise me in the least.
