That's the expertise that I want in a writer working for me. Someone who can
look at the product and say, " ... but wait, that doesn't make sense."

One of my first fights with a company president is another good example.
Bear in mind that I think this guy is a prince among men. He's one of the
few people I've ever worked for that I would drop almost anything to work
for again.

He had a great philosophy. His vision was that the flagship program, a
network diagnostic monitor, should appear immediately after installation
already displaying live information. People loved it.

Except for the menu

The menu bar had 15-20 entries. I'm not talking drop down menu items, I'm
saying there were that many menus. This was also part of his instant access

It took me weeks to convince him that a configuration screen that had to be
modified, at most, once a year, did not need instant access.

After some tweaking and some reworking the menu into a more reasonable
structure, the program became one of the best selling pieces of software I
have been involved with.
